Well I'm looking to pick up an external harddrive for my laptop as the 60 Gig harddrive on it is basically full. It will be mainly just to store music and movies.

What I've had in mine is this Western Digital 120Gig HD, 7200rpm, 8meg buffer, <9.5ms avg seek time.

Is there any other names I should look into? I'd like to keep it under $300Cdn (about $225 US).

Also, is USB 2.0 or Firewire a faster interface?

    Thanks everyone! :bigthumb:

USB2.0 is supposed to be faster than Firewire (480Mbit vs. 400Mbit) but USB is a CPU hog so Firewire winds up having better throughput.

Get a PC hard drive and an external USB enclosure... It will be much cheaper than buying an external hard drive like the one you listed.

I'd suggest a Lacie also. I just picked up a 160 and I love it. Slick looking and smaller than most full size external HD's. I'd also go with firewire. We benchmarked 2 different enclosures (with 2 different firewire/USB chipsets in the enclosures, same model drive) on a USB 2.0/Firewire laptop, and the Firewire decimated the USB 2.0 in HDTach.
