My Lexus just got wrecked and I'm getting ready to buy a new house. I'm cutting down the car payment and putting some cash in my pocket. What should I get :dunno:

Scion xA. I've got one with a 5-speed. Financing came out to like $15.9K with GAP protection. It isn't fancy, but gets good mileage and has been without a single problem.

I'm assuming you don't mind used?

New you could get a versa...they're really good cars IMO and get good gas mileage.

If you want used it really depends on what you want. Quick? Good handling? Comfortable? Gas mileage? I would look at something like a honda civic for a good, reliable and efficient daily driver. If you don't want to drive that slow, get a 6-speed maxima. With a little suspension work, they're very fun cars and I consistantly get 32 mpg on trips (highest being 34) and 24-28 mixed driving. My only complaints are that it's FWD and the frame strength is lacking.

I had an '02 Maxima before I got my Lexus. It was a six speed and I liked it alot. Except when it hit about 70,000 miles and it seemed like the entire car fell apart.

for $15,000, I'd probably get one of the following:

    Lexus IS300
    Honda Accord
    Nissan Maxima
    BMW 328i
    Volvo S40

Really? What'd you do to it? haha. Mine has 75k right now and even with the horrible louisiana roads and stiff suspension, it's still really solid....nothing has broken on me yet :x:

I'd get a year-old Honda Fit Sport for practicality or an NB Miata for fun.

    But I'm weird like that.

VW Passat 1.8t. For about $400 you can get the engine computer reprogrammed to let the turbocharger actually do its job, which frees up about 45hp. The only catch is that you'll have to replace everything but the seats to keep it in top shape. (Ask me how I know this.)

Europeans design things to wear out predictably so you can get it replaced before it breaks, which is totally different than what Americans expect, hence why Euro cars don't fare too well on this side of the pond. If you know how to treat it, though, you'll love driving it to work every single day. (Ask me how I know this too.)

My buddy picked up an 02 Maxima 6spd with HLSD, Leather (Heated seats/steering wheel), Bose 6cd in-dash, moonroof and Auto climate control. 30k miles for $15,400 (from a Nissan Dealer too). Was driven by an old lady too. Killer deal I think. Sometimes you can find a diamond in the rough like that.

A used Infiniti I30/Q45 can be had for around $5000. Early Lexus LS400's can be had for around $7000, ES300's can be had for $4-5000.

Used Hyundai XG300/350's can be had for around $7000+ and have far lower mileage than the other cars I mentioned. I'm saving up for a 2001 XG300L as my first car.
