Yeah - I'm in the middle of writing a review. I'll PM you a link tomorrow. It gets taller than I am with the center column fully extended. And that's without a ballhead or the height of the camera. I'm 5'6"

Whats a good ballhead to match with that? Maybe around 30-50?

I think I'm going to get an Amvona. If you look closely at the giottos, it has a built in head that will suffice until you need a true head.

Would one of these be a wise investment for someone looking to get more serious about photography? I've got a little piece of shit Velbon tripod that I'm afraid to mount even my P&S on. I don't have a bunch of great equipment yet, but I don't want to go around dropping it either. :hs:

A lot of PPL on POTN swear by them. They just didn't fit my needs. So i bought the Giottos. I almost got one though.

I got the Slik 700DX legs and Bogen 486 ball head. ~$150 shipped for the pair.

I LOVE the setup. It gets 7ft tall, < 1ft from the ground, and the single joint ball head is awesome and sooo easy to use. Oh, and it says it supports 18lbs, and judging by the build quality, I EASILY believe it.

The only thing I don't have is that crazy 'tilt' feature that aCab has. And while I can honestly say I've never 'needed' it, I am really jealous of it.

But yeah, I  my setup.
