Well was on the way to my G/F house when my 2 Xtant a1544 both popped and now they sound like the voice coils are cooked. First the one behind me went the the one on the passenger side went with in about 2 seconds.
I figured it would happen soon enough with 1200 watts rms on them. when together they are only supposed to have 500 watts RMS.. going to get 2 12 L7's now.

supposed to get 500w a piece? what amp? settings? box type?

why going for the L7s? not really concerned with sound quality? why would you get 2 with only 1200 watts?

my amp is a ultra linear UL400HC at 1 ohm it puts out 1200 watts RMS
And no the subs could only handle 250watts rms each for a total of 500 watts RMS.
and yes I do want louder and better sounding bass. I had 2 15" xtant a1544's in a 6 cu ft box (3 cu ft per sub, each in it's own chamber) and had slot ports that were 2"x12" and were 14" deep.
was a little loud but not loud enough for me and they didn't sound that great.

The Kickers won't sound great either, but they will be loud. eD A series subs get very loud, and still keep their sound quality. They are selling B stock 15A's right now, that only have slight paint blemishes on the baskets, for $275 shipped :eek3: Better jump on that now. Use a ported box, and give them no more than 1000 watts per sub, and you will be amazed.

www.edesignaudio.com but to get the b stock subs, you have to call in your order, not place it online.

    Brand in general.
Havn't looked into them much but reading on the souddomain.com forum a few people recomend them.
Probably would end up with 2 12" 88120Ti

They are supposed to be really good, and able to handle tons of power. But you can get subs just as good, if not better, for less money.

    Example?
I've heard that those eclipse subs are right up there with the JL audio W7.
I love the way the W7 sounds. It has great sound quality and is still extremely loud.

They might be up there in sound quality, but I don't think they get as loud. Elemental Designs A series is right up threre with the Brahma, IDMAX, re XXX, and W7.

I've actually been looking at the IDMAX subs. They look awesome.
I think I would like them. May give them a chance.

With the Elemental Designs would you recommend using sealed or vented?

Since you already destroyed your other subwoofers, its probably safe to say that you need something substantially louder. Therefore, a vented enclosure would be your best choice, as it will offer increased levels of output.

First about my subs. Well when wiring them we souldered (SP) all the wire connections. When removing my subs from my car I noticed that the soulder had broke. So I used crimp connectors and wired them up in a 4 ohm load for the amp (should have done to start with, But the local shop where I baught the amp said a 1 ohm load would be better) to give them 500 watts RMS (at least that's what the papers for the amp says) And they do sound like totally different subs they have great sound quality but they still arn't as loud as I would like. So I'm going to keep them for probably another 2 weeks or so then I'm going to order something a lil better. and probably put it in my trunk (I want my back seat back)

Probably because all those speakers can get loud and offer great sound quality as well.

So you are saying that you didnt destroy the subs? They stopped working because of a poor quality solder joint?

yeah the main solder where we joined the 2 speakers - 's together broke.
I rewired it into a 4 ohm load by series wiring each sub. then parallel wiring both subs together for the amp.

I get that part silly  But those are some VERY different speakers....

Sorry, it's just far too often I see someone recommend 5 different "super-subs" like they're all the same thing, mainly from people who MIGHT have heard 1 of them, but probably saw them on a forum :dunno:

But would you all recomend the Elemental Designs?
for now I'm just going to buy 1 but plan on buying two. Going to buy the A series.
Should I buy the 12"s or the 15"s?
I want it to be extremely loud So more than likely I will build the vented box that they recommend on thier site. And I want pretty good SQ.

I read on the elemental designs forum that the 15A is out of stock again. You might want to give them a call, they have been having some problems getting cones for their subs, so it might be a really long time before they are available again, or it might be very soon. If the 12A's are in stock, go with that, especially if you plan on getting two. The boxes will be smaller too, which will be important unless you have tons of room.
