1997 Outback, 108k on it, been meticulously dealer maintained per Subaru recommendations. But the thing barely gets 200 miles to a 15.9 gallon tank.

Any thoughts before i take it in?

it might be prone to a leak along the lines like many of the subarus around that year. i have a 98 legacy gt and get about 250 miles to a 13gal tank unless i'm doing long distance highway driving.

you try putting in some injector cleaner or seafoam? there could be carbon build up on stuff.

Possibly a bad O2 sensor. If it' not reading right, you could be running really rich, costing you milage.

I had a 99 GT (or 98 I think) but i got 280 or 300 a tank in city. :) :) Now I have a STi and get about 270 in city. That's pretty dern good. My buddy has a 97 Legacy L and it gets crap mileage too. Don't know why. A leak would almost be the only explanation. That's running the same efficiency as a v-8. Not bueno

Yea try the seafoam. If your O2 sensor is bad, it should be throwing a code.
