'stuttering'? as in sound choppy? video choppy? both?
Try these one at a time in order:
try closing EVERY program except thoes related to the game
update all of your drivers, sound, video, network
    check for viruses / spyware
    defrag
    reinstall windows.

    lol

sorry guess a little bit unexplained. Yes it is a problem with the video and happens in BF2, HL2, and even FEAR. I even tested it by turning graphics to low with 2X AF and 2X AS.

I'll get onto testing it tonight with task manager and spyware check, but a bit till I can defrag

    Thanks guys

you should try finding the latest video card drivers, that system looks like its more than enough to play bf2 ect.

Ya I have the latest ATI control center drivers, but still didn't fix it. Should I try out the omega drivers?

I'd look for a problem elsewhere. Obviously your not running in a ridicously large resolution? Update all your other drivers, kill all unnecesary processes.

I'd defrag HDD's, close all unnecessary background apps, possibly malware problem. Sometimes simply completely uninstalling/reinstalling monitor/video drivers/hardware gets rid of random errors. Re-seat can sort out some problems as well, helped me numerous times.

Does your motherboard have a built-in video card, and if so... is it disabled? It can be disabled in the BIOS when you boot your PC.

Also check to see if you are cooling properly. If you sytem gets too hot it can cause stuttering.
