so I went through an awesome sit-down today with a potential set of clients...

Threw around lots of great ideas, talk about pricing, talked about albums, blah blah blah...

At the end of the day, their wedding package was topping out around $3500.

They LOVED my film noir stuff, they LOVED my ideas, etc.

Then, at the end, Mom asked to see more work. MORE WORK.

YOU FUCKING WHORE. I BROUGHT ALL THE WORK I HAD.

    sorry.

How do you respond to that? Do you really just say 'yeah... this is it?'

Anyone wanna lend me some wedding pics? :wtc:

I did that, mostly because it's true. The guy I 2nd shot for did make me sign a nondisclosure...

I don't think she understood it meant that I only have 3 weddings to show her.

All 3 of which were with me.

    :squint: :sadwavey:

Of course, I have one booked for next week, two booked for next month, and then 7 booked already for next year, but that doesn't help me one goddam bit right now..

Tell them that the work they've seen is your wedding demo's, add in the nondisclosure thing, and if they still look at you kinda odd you could always talk about how its not really cost effective to buy an entire second set of albums, prints, etc for each wedding that you shoot just to be used for demo.

No. You just flip it back on them professional and agreeable.

Smile. "I'd love to show you more work. This is what I've brought with me today, is there anything that really spoke to you from what we have here"

You brought 3 weddings, but how much of each wedding? A few highlights?

Some people want to see most/all of an entire wedding, not just a few key highlights.

This is to ensure you can pull off the entire thing. Most anyone can get a dozen good looking shots....much harder to deliver several hundred decent to good shots over the entire day.

Maybe this is what she was after? :dunno:

Anyways, I'd just redirect her back to what's on the table in front of her.

You can suggest she visit your online gallery for an entire wedding.

If she really wants to see more, I would do that at only a second meeting where's she's prepared to sign the contract and hand over a deposit.

Otherwise, no point to a second meeting, or more sample pics.

there's nothing wrong with a bride bringing her mother to the consult, hell in many cases today the parents of the bride are still paying for the wedding, so what's wrong with them having a say in how their money gets spent?

I usually don't run into this issue, but they usually comment on the fact that they saw the images on the website already. Well, I don't want to put my best work on the website and then show them prints of "lesser" images. So they get the best on the web and also get to see them in print.

I definitely see your point though!

My other work looks like this. I didn't want to waste your time by having you flip through hundreds of pictures.

yeah... I'm still a little bitter.

I really don't have much 'other' work that I can show.

3 of the weddings i've shot were with another photographer, so I signed a non-disclosure, so those don't belong to me....

I have one in 2 weeks, and another 3 weeks after that.. So the work is coming, but F. I wanted to shoot this wedding...

So, i've started a blog. Gonna use it as a sort of dump for all the projects and stuff that i'm shooting, and to host and show a bigger variety of my work...

im soooooooooo glad i wont do weddings. i would really hate myself if i did. so many people get married with a huge ceremony when they should just go the courthouse and be happier they didnt waste so much money.

most people i know dont even make it 5 years anyway.

Lawl....the whole point of marriage is to be independent as husband and wife. If you have to get your parents involved in paying for your wedding, then you should not be getting married in the first place.

If the parents are willing to help, that's fine. But bringing them to meet the photographer :hsugh: Next thing you know your mom is giving you sex ideas in your bedroom.

Look at this current situation ...Jared did not get the job and the couple did not get great photographer for their wedding because the couple values the opinions of their family members.

We would never know who they booked....But the fact still remains that they missed on a GREAT photographer.
