Today I was accepted into my #1 grad school choice, but have been leaning more towards enlisting in the military (if you want to know why enlisting, do a search...)

I'm wondering if anybody here has been in this position: you have your Bachelors, you get out of the military, and want to go back to school for an MA or PhD- how do you go about getting quality letters of recommendation from professors that you haven't seen in presumably 4+ years?

are there other unseen challenges for post-military students returning to the classroom?

    thanks

you don't believe it would be worth serving for 4 years to have my MA paid for?

You need to look into commissioning if you plan on doing this. You're going to want to kill yourself if you enlist.

Edit: Ignore everything I've said, take advice from the officers here.

Why don't you just join ROTC and get a scholarship?

That defeats the purpose of going to grad school (ie, joining the military after I have my PhD doesn't really make any sense).

You could always just get Letters from the prof's now and save them till you wanna pursue higher education.

Nope. It pays for certificates up to $9000, and a Masters. I'm working on my MS now.
