    Shit.

There's a first time for everything, and I got staph on my leg. It isn't too big, but it hurts, and it has a goddamn halo around it. Ten days of Bactrim, but I think I'll wrestle on it when the thing disappears, which hopefully won't take too long.

Any of you guys had staph?

    Yes, and it sucks.

And I gave it to my girl friend...on her butt:mamoru:

It will take longer than you think to go away. DO NOT forget to take your anti-biotics. I have a friend that has been fighting it for months now. :(

They gave me a ten day dose, so I'm hoping it'll be gone by day 5 and the rest will just be, you know, beating the shit out of it.

If there is no visible sign of it, it isn't contagious, right?

That fuckin blows. I had that with pink-eye a few weeks ago, also from wrestling. Got lazy, forgot to take it after symptoms went away, and it came back in a hurry. Wrestling is filthy.

By the way, how did your girlfriend react when you gave her ass-staph?

    A. staph sux
    B. please be considerate and stay off the mats till it's healed
    C. take the meds all the way thru, and also 10 days is way shorter than the meds for when i had it but things have probably changed since it's been over a decade ago for me so 10 days that's easy man, just don't stop taking the meds and once the meds are gone if it flares up or you think it might still be there run don't walk RUN to the doctor to get more antibiotics
    D. Staph doesn't just hurt, it can kill so take seriously
    E. be considerate and stay off the mats, i know i said it already but many folks hurry back to training before it's completely gone and next thing you know, 1/2 the damn gym has staph lol, not that you would do that but i'm just saying.

Update: A few days ago some red dots popped up around the original infection, so today when I ran out of Bactrim I went back to the doctor. They told me it was probably a reaction to the triple-protect ointment I was using, but put me on seven more days of Bactrim because the staph isn't gone yet.

My girlfriend just had a really bad flair up last week. It looks horrible and is killing her. Its on her side near the waist band of her pants. They had to numb her up and cut deep into it to drain it. :(

And she took her meds all the way through.

2 people at my gym got staph a couple weeks ago (they stayed off the mats). But I am super paranoid about it now... I know that it can get in open cuts/wounds and have been checking all over my body for it every practice. Other than going to the doctor (I will go if I see something I think is suspicious), are there any physical symptoms to watch out for? Like... how would you know if you have a pimple or if it is staph?

Mine had a big, pink circle around it, and it was growing fast. And it fucking hurts, man.

I got this soap called Hibiclens, it is what surgeons use to clean their hands before surgery. It's gnarly, if you get it in your eyes it can blind you and if you get it in your ears you can lose your hearing, but it kills the shit out of staph.

The doctor told me that usually when you get an infection it means you have MRSA colonized on your skin, which makes re-infection more likely. He that after I finish the antibiotics, I should scrub myself with this soap to make sure I really get rid of all of it.

Flare-up? How? Do you keep re-infecting her, or what?

Wasn't me this time, I have been clear for a month now.

The Dr. said it she could have reinfected her self off something in her house(doubtful since it had been so long) or never got rid of it last time and it just flared back up.

I dont know much about how it works :dunno:

Just get a loofah and antibacterial soap and scrub a layer of skin off every time you shower after practice.

Update: Staph has been gone for a few days, just finishing off the antibiotics now.
