Let me introduce you to the Student Developer Discount.
    Click link,
    http://developer.apple.com/students/sthardware.html

    Find, and click bold link:
    United States and Canada
Eligible Student members in the United States may order directly from the ADC Hardware Purchase Program Store.

As a student, sign up for $99 and you'll get:

-Mac OS X and Xcode Tools
    -1 ADC Hardware Discount
    -ADC Monthly Mailing

The discount is valid ONCE in the LIFETIME of your membership:

For example COMPARE your STUDENT DISCOUNT:

    8x double-layer SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 256MB SDRAM

    $2,499.00

    to the DEVELOPER pricing:

    2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    1440 x 900 resolution
    2GB memory
    160GB hard drive1
    8x double-layer SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 256MB SDRAM
    Ships: 3-5 business days
    Free Shipping
    $1,999.00

Even when you factor the ipod and printer shit, it's still a better deal.

    Sticky this!

NOTE: IF YOU PLAN ON GETTING APPLECARE...
don't buy it now. the reasoning is you can get it cheaper by purchasing it later with your student discount. don't freak out...you've got up to 1 year from the date of purchase to add apple care on, which i would highly recommend

Found another link. Looks like you have to be 18 and I'm 17. Is there anyway I can get around that? I'm already enrolled in a University for this Fall.

What's the other link? I tried using his but it didn't work, and I can't find any other large discounts like this other than the standard student discount.

    - Edit -

    Thanks Orioles.

    You can't :wtc:

The student hardware discount can only be used once in the lifetime of the person (regardless if you create a new account)

....BUT if you figure out how to get around it, hollar :o

i dont see where it says "once in a lifetime" for the regular developer discount. if it does then i'll just buy it in someone else's name

that still says "student developer" though. there is an entry level regular developer thing w/o the "student". i looked at the t&c for it and it didnt say once in a lifetime.

wish i would have known about this when i bought my macbook back in november. i did use the student discount, how much more would this have saved me?

i'm always considering a mac mini....

err: nevermind about the mac mini, it only saves you $80 compared to a student discount...but if you figure in the developer cost, you come out paying $10 extra

well with the student discount the laptop posted is $2300 so the ADC computer price is $300 cheaper, factor in the $99 membership price, and it's a extra $201 that you paid i suppose. :hs:
