Strikeforce announced on Monday that the main event of its debut event at the Tacoma Dome on Feb. 23 in Tacoma, Wash. will feature Bob Sapp vs. Jan Nortje.

The bout will be Sapp’s second since returning recently at K-1’s Premium 2007 Dynamite on New Year’s Eve. The 6’6”, 360-pound fighter holds a 9-2-1 professional record in mixed martial arts. His only losses are to Kazuyuki Fajita and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Nortje, who maintains a 1-5 professional record in mixed martial arts, is a 6’11”, 330-pound K-1 kickboxing veteran and professional boxer. He is also a former training partner of Sapp’s.

“I’m extremely excited,” said Nortje. “I’ve always seen Bob get big opportunities so I think it’s my turn to show what I can do against him.”

A native of South Africa, Nortje relocated last year to Las Vegas, where he has been training with K-1 superstar and world kickboxing champion Ray Sefo.

“It’s been a great experience so far. Ray is so knowledgeable in all areas of fighting,” Nortje said.

“Stirkeforce at the Dome” also features former UFC heavyweight champion Maurice Smith facing six-time world kickboxing champion Rick Roufus, who will be making his professional MMA debut.

  5. I hope Jan knees him in the face.
