Next month I'm attending a conference held by a company that makes the CAD software I use. Each morning they have a general session where they release news and previews of the next upcomming version. I am going as a member of the press because of a blog I write about the software. What I would like to do is provide a live text feed on the Internet to those not able to attend. Anyone have any ideas on how to best do this?

Looks like I will try it on the blog. That wont require users to download anything, and will only require a refresh. Also the site shouldnt be blocked by most workplace security.

Have your blog page contain an iFrame that loads a separate page containing the text you write. Then include code in the blog page that refreshes the iFrame once every 30 seconds or something like that.

My solution was simple to implement and easy to understand. Yours involves a web service. That's not to say it isn't a better solution, but mine can be done in five minutes by someone with almost no web coding experience.

Care to provide any details at all on how to make your idea work?

Yes. Write a little JS to reload the page as you suggested, and it delivers HTML which you then slap in your page via innerHTML. Very basic AHAH.

This could be done with Ruby/Rails in about 10min

How long would it take to get his server configured to run Ruby scripts, though?

Maybe I should have added that my blog is hosted on typepad, so I dont have many options in terms of changes to the interface.

Right now it looks as if the easiest thing for me to do is to start a new post, and then do edits to it durring the course of the presentation.

Thanks for all the replies, most of the recomendations went right over my head!

Do one post each time you have something worth posting. Thats better than streaming your live thoughts.
