Damian Christopher James, 17, was shot by Hugo Villalta, the owner of Bentley's 1900 Jewelers on Wednesday, according to police. Police said two men were pretending to be customers at the jewelry store in the 2700 block of East Oakland Park Blvd. when they pulled guns on owner Villalta and his wife about 11 a.m. Wednesday. Police said Villalta grabbed his own gun and shot both men. James was shot between the eyes and another man, Devaughn C. Heard, was shot in the chest. Villalta's son was in a back room and dialed 911. James was unconscious when paramedics arrived. Heard stumbled outside, bleeding from several wounds, according to police. He drove off in a silver sport utility vehicle but was spotted by a Wilton Manors police officer. "We ordered him out of the car and he complied and he, sort of collapsed on the ground," Officer Greg Gardner said. Heard was critically injured and was taken to Broward General Medical Center. Heard is in critical but stable condition and has been charged with armed burglary and carrying a concealed weapon. Additional charges may be pending, police said. Villalta and his wife were not hurt. Bentley's 1900 Jewelers remained closed Thursday. Good shoot, he should of plugged the 2nd guy another time or 6.
