Just picked up the new Stoeger (Beretta) Cougar 8000 this morning. $379 OTD.
This thing is pretty damn solid and feels great for under $400. I got it in .40 but you can also get it in 9mm right now, and .45 is on the way "soon" in the 8045 model. Don't know when that will be out yet. It is kind of heavy for its size, which I compared to a Sig P229, and about the same weight... or so it felt. The one thing I don't like is it doesn't have an option for a tactical light rail... oh well. Can't have that on every gun. I love the nice rounded edges for snag free carry (if you care to bear the bulk) and the decocking lever feature.
factory sights are cheapo, but get the job done. And the rotating barrel is by far the coolest feature of all. And apparently it helps with recoil alot as well.

I plan to take it to the range sometime this coming week, but for now I'm at work... which is why I submit to you cell phone pics. I have my digi camera with me, but I had guns on my mind instead and forgot the cable to hook up to the computer at work. So I'll post hi-res pics when I get home. Enjoy :x:

So you decided to get the large frame .45 huh? What made that one stick out over the P226 .40? Not that I care really, I'm just happy you made up your damn mind. :mamoru:

Well, I ended up getting a G19 on Monday, so I decided size was no longer an issue in my Sig decision. The guys at the gunstore were supposed to bring back a P226R, but they couldn't get one, so they brought back the P220R instead. And I've always loved the 220, so I bought it.

    Yay! lol.

Dude, its only $350 brand new... its not bad at all. And its extremely comparable to a classic style P229 without the light rail. I cant say I'm a huge fan of Beretta pistols, but I'm absolutely impressed with the initial quality of this piece for its price. This could possibly be the new best bang for the buck. Considering that 10 yrs ago the original Cougar, by Beretta, was a $700 gun, and nothing has changed about it except the name change to Stoeger, thats a damn steal.

It will be interesting to shoot that gun and see what $350 gets ya. Remember Seans $350 S&W? The gun looked decent, had a good feel, but was a pile of shit and shot like crap. It had such a heavy pull to it.

Remember that this gun is actually a Beretta Cougar 8000, which sold for $700 10 years ago, but had no market. It was a "compact" alternative to the full-size Beretta 92FS. Once Beretta Holdings bought out Benelli, who owns Stoeger, they set up a plan to market some older Beretta pistols (and apparently more to come) that didn't sell so well for Beretta. They moved their manufacturing facility to Turkey to save money and allow them to market the guns for much much cheaper.

The quality of the gun never changed... its the same gun, different name.
