I've searched up the pain online and it seems pretty common with a lot of people, especially with those who lift. Just wanted to check with you guys if it is normal or not. The pain isn't soreness, but rather a sharp sort of feeling in my sternum. I feel it throughout the week, especially after I wake up from naps/in the morning. I'll even feel it crack in the mornings sometimes. The pain isn't excruciating or anything, but it's there and I'd like to know if it's worth getting checked out or not.

yeah I used to get that sometimes and it'd feel better after I stretched and popped it. Getting some massage work done took care of the problem but you can pretty much do it yourself.

I saw on this other forum, nga said he's had it for 10 years on and off.. Maybe i should stretch chest a bit before every workout. If i had the motivation i'd do a full body stretch everyday for like 15 minutes, but I'm too lazy for that shit.

Yeah dips used to aggravate it for me when I first started doing them.

You ever lay down on the ground and have someone walk on your back?

Shit feels so good when you feel all your bones crack.

I used to love that, until I got a foam roller.

    Roller works sooo much better.

My sternum used to pop and crack all the time, probably twice a day when at it's worst. Hasn't really happened in the last 2+ years though and I can't pinpoint any changes I made that would have stopped it. Don't think it's anything to worry about though :dunno:

    Heavy Decline aggravates my sternum.

Your sternum is actually a joint (fibrous joint), thats the reason why it hurts when doing some exercises thats stretches the two halves of your sternum apart, such as heavy decline or weighted dips. go a little lighter on whatever exercises u really feel straining it.

Thanks for the replies. I'll continue doing what i'm doing, if it gets worse/hinders me from doing exercises then I'll go lighter on decline.

i messed my sternum up pretty bad doing weighted dips a few months ago. recently took a week off of lifting and it was actually feeling pretty good. I sneezed two nights ago and it popped and hurts like a bitch once again :o

    It's a rolled rib.

Go to the chiropractor and get it fixed.

If you were local I'd do it myself.

Happens to me all the time. It's like a sharp pain in the middle of the chest that comes suddenly and goes away after a minute or two. It's pretty normal in lifters.

I've noticed that the two exercises that tend to produce the feeling for often are heavy declines and weighted dips.

It happened to me pretty regularly until I started going to the chiropractor.

The ribs articulate with the spine and the sternum.

It took about two weeks before my muscles were trained enough to hold it in place correctly but it doesn't go out anymore.

Go. You'll feel better and be able to breathe better.

I get that. Once it pops its almost like I can breath better.
