As far as exercise goes, I'm set for the perfect running weather, great student rec center with an amazing gym. However, my school seems to be lacking alot on nutritional foods. Our foodcourt consists of a sandwich shop, McDonald's, a smoothie and wrap shop, Panda Express, Papa Johns, and Chik-Fil-A (I go to U of Arizona). Anyways, I'm finding it rather difficult to eat healthy and still maintain variety in my diet. I'm in the dorms, so cooking my own food isn't an option. I'm not sure what to do besides taking vitamins to replace what I'm losing from the food.

Suggestions? Anyone else have this problem and find a solution?

Subway aint the worst choice. If fast food is a must, grilled chicken without mayo/sauce and some veggies is pretty good too. Everything fast food has 2000mg of sodium jammed into it though :sad2:

Do you drive? If not get someone to take you to Wal-Mart. Get some bags of brown rice (check on the package to see if you can microwave it, preferrably with just water, no butter). Get some bags of frozen chicken, pre-cut, in 4-6oz servings, boneless, skinless. Try whole wheat bread and veggies (these fill you up nicely). Oatmeal is good in the morning, mix with dried fruit (I get both of these at an Amish place, I think; they add no salt, preservatives, or anything else that you would find in products at the store.) You can't go wrong with a multivitamin, just make sure on the label that there it is well-balanced in vitamins/minerals in the proper amount (ie that none are neglected).

Chick-fil-A has good charbroiled chicken salads--eat with no dressing. I believe McDonald's does, too. The sandwich shop doesn't sound bad as long as you get whole wheat bread, good meat (try not to get the processed meat filled with sodium, preservatives, etc), veggies, no/very little sauce. Same for the wrap shop. Stay away from Papa Johns; I don't know what Panda Express is.

Most people you ask on here will just tell you about a bodybuilder's diet (40% protein, 40% fat, 20% carbs), but if you just want a healthy diet, follow the Healthy Eating Pyramid (http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/pyramids.html).

if there is a grocery store around, maybe you might want to try checking out some pre-cooked chicken (take the skin off) and you'll be able to get salad's from there, tuna is always a good source of protein

    college student checking in.

I pretty much eat subway daily, egg beaters, oatmeal, cereal, protein shakes, TV DINNERS! ...just make sure to drink lots of water and you're golden.

I go through a 32 pack of bottled water in about 1 week.

We can't have foreman grills, most we can have is a microwave.
We do have a cafeteria, but a lot of what they serve is crap.
    Greasy burgers, quesadillas etc...

I go there for dinner most of the time, because what they serve kind of relates to a proper dinner. (potatoes, grilled chicken, mixed greens, salad)

This whole eating issue is one of the reasons I might just live at home for my first couple years of college.

    no

go to school it doesn't compare to living at home, and you're not going to die from not eating as good, so who cares you have the rest of your life to eat good

that's one of the worst reasons to live at home, unless you are a professional athlete and you need really proper sleep/eating habits
