At a local gym here (Fitness Plus) that has Maui Thai and BJJ. Watched a session there today and the place is clean and the people seem to know their shit. The guys there were friendly too. The cardio they do is gonna kill me... temporarily :hs:
Should be interesting to see how she goes
Where do you guys recommend for a gi? Preferably within Canada, but whatever

A half hour of cardio at the start... which was a combination of jogging, front/back rolls, lunges, sprawls, shrimps, jumping jacks, push-ups, etc etc
I puked about 3/4 of the way through that, then finished it
Then we did a half hour of instruction, which was great
Then a half hour of rolling - I lasted about half way through that, puked more, and sat out feeling like a shaky piece of shit lol
Next class should be just as fun :x:

Its, IMHO, hard to pick up techniques if you dont integrate them through increasing resistance drills. Instruction against a dead opponent followed by rolling isnt as effective.

We practiced the techniques with varying degrees of resistance prior to rolling - I just didn't mention it
For the record, the pentagon choke is complicated as fuck and totally unfamiliar :squint:

couple key tips i think are important to anyone just starting

    1. dont be a head squeezer
    2. dont be a mat spaz
    3. you dont have to try to go full bore 100% of the time
    4. focus on position before submission, blah blah mantra of grappling
    5. if you get tapped with the same thing a couple times, ask them if they mind showing you how to not get into the position, and once in it, how to escape
    6. your partner is not your enemy, he/she is teaching you every time they tap you. learn from it and don't hold grudges
    7. hips hips hips hips hips hips hips, hips are everything, learn to control your opponents, learn to move yours

i'm tired of writing, i'm sure that'll be good to get you started.

I started BJJ 2 months ago, best fucking thing i ever did! intense workout, and not nearly as harsh on the body.

as for a gi in canada, www.rdfc.tv seems to stock some good stuff. Good luck and enjoy!

I don't think I've ever thrown up from exhaustion though I've felt like it many times.

I'm looking to start training again next month, and I feel I'm really out of shape from doing nothing for the last few months. I'm going to be so screwed!

Start with an over/under in back mount (we'll say right = under, left = over)
With your right hand, grab his right wrist
Bring your right ankle up and across his body while sliding your hips right and grab your right ankle with your left hand, on the left side of his head/neck
Bring your left leg up and over your right foot/ankle to lock it in place (triangle choke-style)
Grab left shin with right hand
    Squeeze knees together

At that point (if you can get there) they're choked, and hurting :hs:

Oh yeah, it's one of Jorge Gurgel's schools, if anyone cares
