I'm pretty much set on getting a D80 and debating on what lenses to get. I've been thinking of getting the D80 w/18-55 as well as a 55-200 VR lens. All in all I can get it around 1,115.

I'm trying to stay relatively inexpensive as I'm just starting out. I'm really only questioning the 18-55 kit lens because I think I'd rather get a lens with a smaller f-stop (I suck at camera lingo) so I can capture better indoor pictures.

That sounds like a good deal to me. I know we sell the D80 for $849 for just the body. I dont know the 18-55 price but we also sell the 55-200 VR for $250. That already puts you at the $1100 mark. Youre not going to get faster glass and stay "relatively inexpensive" unless you go with a prime. For beginners, primes may be a little too restrictive. Up to you though. Id just get an SB600 or something instead if youre worried about indoors.

    Similar to my set up:

    D80 body from Amazon.com for $781.95
    50mm f1.4 used for $200
18-70mm f3.5-4.5 from by D70 kit (can be had used for about $250)
SB800 flash but you can get away fine with an SB600

That 55-200 VR sounds fun although I dont really ever use long glass.

I would go stick with the 18-55 and the 55-200VR lens.
    That is a good combo.

adn the 55-200VR is substantially better than the non VR version. sharper and faster focus IMO.
