I like Canon others like Nikon. Not sure if Sony has the product line to grow with your interest and I know the others do.

Canon and Nikon recently released new cameras so you could get an older model for a very low price. Expect these prices to go up again once the hype is over with.

Nikon and Canon are generally the way to go.

Go to the store, play around with them, see which feels better in your hands (they are very different).

Then go home and order online from adorama or bhphoto

I did however see just as many Sonys as Nikons (D40's came out of the wood work) on a winter hike I went on last weekend.

hi i just got started about 2-3 years ago and have this sony "system"
to learn about it i suggest dyxum.com, thier main forum.

the plus about this system is the built in wireless in all flashes. i do not like the a200, i think the a350 is about the same cost. the kit lens gets good ratings.

    I´m a little bit confused :p

Is there a main difrence about Nikon and Canon? I mean, for eg. Canon is recommended for sports and Nikon is recommended for portraits and stills?

    Thanks again :)

That´s the problem, because prices here in Brazil are high, due some taxes and other things. Anything cheaper than d300, of course :big grin: and if it's possible cheaper or on the same range of 30D. It Helped?

I´m going to shoot portraits, landscapes, night scenes, sunsets, people and almost everything in general :)

Is it true that Canons' Cameras have problems with metering and auto focus?

the new 1DmkIII was having some issues, but as a whole, no.

Any DSLR system will suit you fine if you're just planning on this as a hobbiest. What you need to do is go to a camera store and hold all the systems, play with the menus and pick the one that best fits for you. If you plan on turning semi-pro/pro, stick with canon or nikon, and again, both are great systems, just subtle differences in feel and menu systems.

Fleck, I started with the Canon XSi (450D) and so far love it. I think it's great to start out with.

Also, I'll be visiting Brazil next week. Which part are you from?

I started out with a Canon 300D (Original Digital Rebel). I thought it was a great starter camera. I think if I knew more back then, I would have gone with a 20D/30D because the price is right on them and they've got a much better feel than the Rebels.

pantheR: I'm from Rio de Janeiro! Sorry for the lateness in the response.
    Have you already came?

TapoutTonster: sim, falo! Yes, I speak. TapoutTonster

Is 350D still a good choice? Is Xsi better than the D60 or the new D5000?

    Thanks again!

I had the XT (350D) it wasn't bad, but i wanted more out of my camera. The D60 is pretty much a D40 with a couple of minor features added/upgraded, and the rebel is on par with the d40.
