I made a thread last week about possible new routines, I've been lifting religiously since January... but have just been doing isolation and many of you pointed me in the direction of this routine.

B/S/D all in same day... gonna be rough.:o Any pointers/suggestions from past users? I can only get the the gym M-Thursday, so I'll be doing a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday routine... with some biceps/forearms/abs/cardio on Wednesdays... sound reasonable?

You'll be fine, just tough it out.

Chris posted it up in F&N but it's a Modified Bill Starr Routine.

Good luck. It was a hard routine at first. Then I got used to it. Brought my numbers up pretty well.

Helped me a shit-ton, i probably doubled most of my numbers, though putting on 60lbs might have had something to do with it.

Make sure you eat enough and the workload isnt anything ridiculous. Just make sure to switch up variations of the lifts every now and then to avoid adaptation.

    That routine is badass!

I found the first 2 weeks were the hardest. It is a physically demanding routine. If you find it isn't, you're not trying hard enough. After the first 4 weeks, it took my 5x285 pound squat to 5x325, and a 5x285 deadlift to 5x315.

I just got back and let me tell you how sore my lower body is, good lord. I can tell you arent kidding, first two weeks will suck I'm sure. The deadlifts killed me... I did them first though, does it make a difference what order you go in with the exercises?

I also threw in a lil cardio... 16 minutes of the bike and a few of hitting the speed bag.

I normally go Squats -> Deadlifts -> Bench -> Inc DB's. Working my way through legs, back then arms. I know it's heavily based on squats, so I tent to hit that the hardest then take a few minutes to recover before hitting deadlifts.

Do people use this as a bulking routine or what? I don't want to excessively bulk, but at the same time but on some good sized muscle... if that makes sense.

what were you when you started it?

I'm currently 187, should be around 175-180... could afford to drop a lil weight, but not looking to get above 200-205. Never have been plus 200 before :noes:

I started at 235 pounds, but I was a 40" waist. I'm still 235 pounds, but a 38" waist. I haven't measured anything else out, but my buddies have noticed I'm slowly cutting fat and gaining more muscle.

Nice gains, I didn't know you were coming along so quick

I did the same kind of thing, put on lots of weight, and got much, much stronger. Yesterday something got into me and I hit 90lbs worth of PR's (455 DL + 225 bench)

I've always liked the burn in my chest i got from doing the incline Dumbbells. Its something i rarely feel in my chest and its a motivator to me.

Give it time man. I found that using boards with pauses and floor presses helps a lot also, to get yourself comfortable with the higher weights and to build explosive strength. I tried static holds yesterday, going to see on thurs if they did anything. Integrating split jerks and other explosive shoulder- intensive movements feel like they have helped alot too.

Just keep working at it man, my bench was stuck at 175-185 for probably 4 months, and I am almost as new to this as you are.

I was just about to that point yesterday, but banged out the sets of inclines and bounced. My gym only goes up to 80 or 85lbs dumbells... ftl. I'm already at 65s, prolly 70s next week :wtc:
