Hi everyone. Recently stumbled into this section of the forums. I think its great and am not sure how I skipped over it. Well here is my dilema. I just graduated college and recently left my position at a semiconductor company. I generally wore what ever I wanted to so never had the need to dress up.

I start my new position at a law firm in a few weeks which require you to dress up in slacks and a button up shirt every day. I have a few dress shirts/pants from banana republic, club monaco and hugo boss, but I need to buy a bit more clothes. I am having issues finding clothes that arent so baggy. Many of the dress pants are just too loose and the shirts are very "fluffy" in the back. Any brand suggestions from the style lab? Thanks guys

I find ben sherman clothes to be weird, like they are cut in such a way to hide a guys gut. They seem like fat guy clothes and never really fit well.

So, how does one get started v.abouttoenterprofessionalwerldz!

    :noes:

So I graduate in May and I think its time I stop dressing like a college student and more like a young professional. But, I do not know where to start....Are there base pieces to buy...do I start with pants, shirts, shoes....

I cannot really go on a spending spree where I drop 10k, well I can, but I wont. Instead, I would like to amass a nice wardrobe over the coming year.....

    ^^

what kind of clothes do you wear now?
you could start off with a couple of nice button ups, some sweaters, jackets, all of which can be purchased inexpensively at places like Zara or H&M *correct me if im wrong boys*

what career are you thinking? or what type of career? the style of clothes you wear is going to be influenced by that a lot.

    New job, new clothes..

For a couple of years now I haven't cared so much about what clothes/colours are fashionable. I dressed simple with clothes I was comfortable in and kept me warm. (jeans or khakis, shirt, wool sweater and a navy looking coat. Traditional colours like black, white, navy blue) Which was fine for as long as I was a student. But now I'm entering the workforce and got myself a job as a professional nerd (working with computer hardware and probably some software support too). Not ideal, but I need the money. I'm worried I'm overdressing for this job. Maybe I just need to change the colours a little, black and white might be too stiff. The idea isn't to stand out too much, the idea is to dress safe but not boring while not looking like I belong at Harvard Law or something cause I don't.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I've already looked through a couple threads in here trying to get ideas but lots of it was warm weather clothing with t-shirts being the centerpiece which is no good up here I'm afraid.
