I'm going to Slave to the Needle (Ballard location) and my artist is Honest Jon.

He originally scheduled me for seven four hour appointments just to make sure he had enough time, each of them 2 weeks apart from the last. I have two sessions in so far, first one was 3 hours of work and this last one (today) was 4 hours of work.

Nice and fresh, 3 hours old as of right now.

    4/13/09 Update

All of the outlining is officially done. All that is left is coloring and shading various places.

The next two shots show some pretty neat work done by him. Transparent water fall/flow with rocks behind it. Completely free handed by him while working on the shading behind him. He didn't even sketch it on first :eek3:

    4/28/09 Update

More work done! It will all be completed at the next appointment on May 11th. Exciting :big grin:

Full shot of the first koi colored in. After it all heals it's going to turn into a dark orange.

    5/11/09 Update

It is complete. I'll update one more time in a month or so with the pics of it all healed up and settled.

Upper arm is getting a huge koi (blown up pretty big) with waves all around it and more rocks up the side.

Just noticed your motto... I've been thinking up a tattoo I was going to use that quote in some script rapped around some gonzo stuff..

that looks nice dude but if you're going for the full sleeve wait until they get to the "elbow pit" and the actual bone one your elbow. those are the only two places that hurt for me

So, so true. I was all holding my arms around like Bobe Dole when I got the pits done!

By the way, you (DaFreak963), have one of the best Japanese traditional sleeves here on OT.

thanks man  you have some fantastic work yourself. I owe my work to Yutaro Sakai from Primal Urge in SF so if any of you guys are looking for an artist in the bay area anyone in that shop will do a great job.

edit: hes at skull & sword on ceasar chavez in SF now if you want to look him up

Might be too many variables to answer that question thoroughly. Are you arms bigger? Smaller? Will your artist charge the same hourly? Is your artist fast? Slow? Etc., etc.

Oh I've experienced some of that already. Under side of elbow was the most painful place I've had tattoo'd on my body so far. It's bruised/swollen right now.

My artist is charging me 150/hr. And each time I tip 20% of what was spent on the tattoo. It will depend how long it takes him to know exact price. He's pretty quick, though. Some of the other artists were watching him during their down time and commented on how fast he was moving.

He does amazing work and has done my last 3 tattoos before this sleeve. I respect and appreciate the work he does so I feel that 20% is fair :dunno:

I don't think I can plan an entire sleeve and have it done that fast. My 2nd tattoo was on my right shoulder and 2 1/2 years later (total of 5 sessions) I had a half sleeve. The first 2 sessions were done about 6 months apart and then it took 2 more years to finish. I was stationed in CA and the artist who started it was in PA. I had to wait until I was home on leave/vacation to get it worked on :hsd: I liked the slow progression though since it gave me a bit of time to figure out how to finish up.

I have 2 sessions on my lower left leg and I want to run it from ankle to knee and all the way around. I haven't had the money to get anything done for a while so its just a waiting game :o I know what I want to do on the next part, but I don't know what to do after that.

Basically what I'm saying is its hard for me to figure out what I want for the finished product when I've begun something. I like to see it all piece and blend together and then it brings forth other ideas.

Anyway, yeah, that looks pretty :coold:

    Thanks :bigthumb:

Yah I've been thinking about this for about 2 or 3 years now. Looked at lots of pictures, lots of portfolios, etc. until I figured out what I wanted exactly. Went in and talked to my current artist about it and we planned it all out. He asked if I was ready to do it all and I was, and have plenty of money set aside to cover it, so we booked all 7 appointments right then and there, each 2 weeks apart from each other to allow time to heal.

I'm stoked that I'll be getting it all done in about 2.5 months total. It will most likely be less than that because he over booked me just to make sure he'd have time to finish it all.

I'm just so excited I can't wait for it to be done :o
