I'm building my first AR and my local gun store has a complete stag upper 16" for 629.99? Should I get that or wait for the BCM 16" for $475, which i'll need a BCG for $130 and charging handle for $24?

Get a CMMG upper from Midwestpx.com

THT runs the site and he is the man.

EDIT assuming you want a complete upper. If you wanna piece it together, get the BCM.

$630 is a touch pricey for a Stag unless it's a 2HT. I can get you complete CMMGs for mid $500s shipped depending on which model you want.

Are CMMG better than stag or are they pretty equal?

No experience with CMMG, but from what I've read, they're about equal.

You get a 1/7 barrel with some CMMG uppers whereas you only get 1/9 with Stag. Also, Stag uppers lack M4 feed ramps (not a big deal).

I'm a college student and I did it. If you don't already have the tools needed to assemble a lower, you should probably invest in a simple tool kit, it'll come in handy more than once.

EDIT: i see you're in East bay. If you need tools or help next week, gimme a shout and we can meet up.

THT how much do you think a 16" CMMG 1/7 flat top mid length upper with a front sight would be from you?

I'm pissed that cmmg discontinued their lightweight barrels but I'd still get the cmmg upper for the 1/7 twist

not that i'm ready to build my own, but just for shits and gigles, what is the price range you guys are building your AR's in? i'm sure it's way more than the wife would allow right now anyway lmao. god i want one though

and i'm talking $ for the gun parts, not including optics. (not asking for detailed lists that would take time, just ball park figure for a decent not shit, not top of the line)

  25. The price range is soooo variable based on what you want. When I built my AR early last year, I spent about $1,000. Since then, I've got another ~$1200 into it.
