Does anyone have experience with the SSRI paxil. I started taking it last week and has totally killed my sex drive. When I do have sex I can't get off. When I masterbate I can't get off. Does this get better once I get used to the drug. It is very frustrating.

I have been taking Paxil for over two years.

When I was with my ex-girlfriend, my sex drive was great, and I had no problem having an orgasm to porn, or in her, or in her mouth, etc.

That being said, after two years of being on Paxil, I am not as lustful, I have deleted all my porn, in the last month I have dated two girls, one twice and I am asking her out again tomorrow.

It is good, because when I look at her, I am not fantasizing about sex. In fact, I am looking at her for her. My sexual fantasies... I cannot say they exist.

And I am happy with that. Paxil is a beautiful drug. In combination with omega-3s, and a gym routine, it is very hard to get me down. I am also very content, or happy, most of the time.

Sex is still a very important part of my life, and I do feel the need for a partner, absolutely, and I am trying to hook up with this girl. But in all honesty, I look back on those days of masturbation with repugnance. It seems so dismal, compared to what I am now.

Paxil studies are showing that this drug may be working by creating new neural synapses in the brain, and the side effect of the drug is that it helps with depression. Our brains do not have a large capacity to create new synapses like that. Research into exersize is also proving that increased blood flow to the brain to help regenerate or create new memory synapses.

I do not know about you, but I think this drug is a blessing in a world like ours.

    Peace

talk to your doctor. they maybe be able to switch you to something else. Welbutrin is supposed to be better for the sex drive....obviously it depends on if that would also help your symptoms.

I need to get on this stuff. My sex drive is so distracting. I think it does me more harm than good. Of course if I had a g/f my tune would probably be different. :o

Due to the sexual side effects? These drugs are prescribed to people with neurological defects, so unless you're a doctor, please don't promote "ditching" them. My boyfriend has been on Lexapro for over two years and he does amazingly well on it, and it has positive side effects on his sex drive. In case you're wondering, we've been together for a little over 4 years, so I know what sex was like before and after the drug.

You should talk to your doctor about it and see what he can do for you. Anti-depresants are a lot like birth control. You have to try them out and find the right one for you, and your doctor will gladly help you do that. The point of the drug is to help to enhance your life, not hurt it.

If you absolutely must keep taking paxil, there are some supplements you can take along side it to keep your sex drive in shape.

Check out herbolove.com and look up "vitalife 3" and "moodmax"

I take these with effexor and it put me right back into good shape.

If you need to come off of paxil safely, theroadback.org has everything you need.

    Enjoy.

Recommending not taking medication for a neurological defect when she's not a doctor because of sexual side effects? Recommending speaking to his doctor about switching is the responsible thing to do, being that this person is on the medication for a medical reason. I also apologized, because obviously how I took it and how she meant it were two different things. Thanks for trying, though. :ugh2:
