I'm thinking about making an SSD RAID in my Mac Pro.

I know very little about SSD's, except there's 2 types, and they cost a lot.

I read that Samsung is releasing a cheaper 256GB model sometime soon. Should I wait for that, or spring for another one? I currently have a 4 stripe RAID with some 500GB Sammy's, would I notice a difference running my OS and apps off a 2 stripe SSD RAID?

he said that samsung is supposedly going to release a cheaper version. that isn't to say it is going to be cheap, but cheaper than current.

to the OP, i have no idea.

current Samsung SSDs are 32GB and 64GB, about $300-$500+
the new one is 256GB and is more awesome
    there's no cheaper version

you aren't asking "cheaper than what?" though. maybe they have 2 256Gb versions coming out, a fast super expensive one and a slower moderately expensive one (but still the cheaper of the two).

then again, maybe he means it is cheaper than purchasing a private jet.

indeed there are 2 versions, a 2.5" and a 1.8",.... but I don't think he was referring to the price diff between those two. the price of those SSDs was never mentioned anywhere so I wonder where he'd got the idea that it was 'cheaper'.
