all of my friends that i get to start lifting with me have trouble keeping theirs heels planted when they squat. I do not have this problem and haven't been lifting that long, so i don't know how to help them.

Any advice or pointers on this would be greatly appreciated, since if my friends keep lifting i'll always have someone around ot lift with and spot me and such.

Tell them to place their feet wider, pointing outward more, go with a more powerlifting stance. Also, have them look upwards rather than forwards, helps keep the natural curve in their backs.

tell them to spread the floor with their hips with a straight upper back, bar as far back as possible, and like preemo said...box squatting helps

a couple of weeks ago, two guys were actually doing squats on their toes on purpose. I guess one guy was teaching the other how to squat properly and kept correcting him when he planted his heels. It was a strange exercise, you do some calf raises, then some 1/4 squats on your toes.

I find looking at the ceiling helps, when ever I look forward, I see myself in the mirror and am drawn to the beautiful image that is I and I end up leaning forward.

if they work a desk job and sit for most of the day then their calves will tighten and so will their lower back. tell them to stretch out once or twice at work to counter act this. It helped my form a ton.

it's not the lower back that tightens, it's the hips

Also, what kind of shoes are you wearing? When I have shoes with more sole towards the back, I can atg squat normally. For a few months though, I have been wearing old wrestling shoes for wide squatting, and have alot of problems going low and narrow without something under my heels.

I know, but I'd rather put 10lbs under each foot than drop $130 for gym shoes for a lift I will never compete in
