A guy at the gym the other day showed me how to do squats on a machine that was premade for them, IE no free-weights. It's a cube like thing with the bar attached to two sides and it has locks to stop the weight when u rotate the bar. I did this for multiple sets over different days and started to get lower back pain. I stopped doing it and my back is better. Should I just stop doing vertical squats as I dont see the need in harming my back? Can someone also explain to me how on earth it could be good for you to put weight on your shoulders and then have it go down through your back vertibrees(sp) CRUSHING them all to your pelvis?

Will doing squats on a machine that is at a 60 degree agree from the floor get the same part of my ass, quads, hamis?

No shit it's pussy I got that clear.

How about you give me some logic rather than your petty comments. Silly cocky lifters. I use my mind more than muscle so I probably dont belong here, but answer my queston. I know it's for wimps.

The idea is that your muscles will protect your spine.

Millions of people squat without getting back problems from it, just take it for what it is.

youll notice that when you do a free weight squat, the bar doesnt just go up and down, theres much more ROM to the movement. ROM that a fixed bar cannot give you.

 that guy is an idiot if he showed you how to squat on a smith. the trajectory of the bar during a squat is nowhere vertically straight. smith machines are prolly only good for calf raises, shrugs, and

    curls :hsugh:

you realize squatting is an extremely natural motion. watch a toddler try to pick something up, they squat down to do it. if anything doing them right will help prevent back problems in the future, building up muscles so your spine doesnt take the load.
