I've been doing leg presses for about 1.5 months now and I'm getting ready to do squats. Should I do squats, leg presses, both, or alternate them?

I thought about it, but when I'm done with leg presses, I can barely walk, let alone squat anything. Should I just decrease the weight I do on the leg press a lot and throw some squats in there? It seems like it might be better to just stick with heavy squatting since they both hit the same muscle group (right?).

    Any particular reason behind that?

    Because squats are better/harder.

Squats = Lots of Hamstring work, some quad, alot of glute
Leg Press (Close Feet) = Lots of Quad Work

And you can also proboably take your leg press number and chop it at least in half for squats

That's what I figured...I'm going to deduct my body weight from what I put up on the leg press and begin there.

Whatever the leg press weighs + 270lb...I'm guessing ~300ish. I weigh 208, so I'll start with ~100 for squats.

Edit: I just remembered one thing, when I first started working out, I did squats 3x10 95lbs. That was back when my legpress was like 100lbs, so I should be able to do more than 100.

The leg press really weighs nothing, and Im doing close to 500lbs on leg press and not even 285 on squats well I did 285 and tore my hammy

I'd start with less than 100. Starting very light and slowly adding weight each set will help a lot with technique, espescially since you haven't been squatting regularily.

Thanks for the replies. There's a nice little tie going between doing squats alone and doing both squats and lp on the same day.
