So i was doing squats today and this older guy walks up to me and says that he didn't want to say anything but he needed to because he thinks im going to injure myself. He was bigger than me so i listened to what he said but i wanted to ask you guys if he is right or not. Here is the picture of how he showed me to to squat properly.

he told me i was sticking my ass out to far and my back was too arched, he told me i could seriously injure myself like that. What i had a question about is that his shins aren't perpendicular to the floor at all, and i thought it was supposed to be like that. Anyways is he right?

edit: oh and i also had my feet a little bit like this \ / and he told me to have them completly like this | |

that guy has no fucking clue what hes talking about. youre squatting completely correct. sticking your ass way out and arching hard are using the strongest muscles available to you to squat (lower back, glutes, hams) and breaking at the hips first will save your knees big time. pointing your toes out slightly will allow you to get deeper but if you keep them straight forward youll involve the hips alot more which is what louie recommends in comp squatting even though its harder to get down you get more spring up.

Never let your knees go past your toes when squatting, the shearing forces on the knees are huge and you will really fuck up your knees that way.

Sorry, after 2 years of anatomy and kinesiology, I disagree, but if you've found literature stating otherwise, I'd love to read it.

Sort of. The powerlifting method will allow you to lift heavier weights which will obviously put more strain on your body parts.

as long as you allow your tendons to strengthen to catch up with your muscle strength and load gains, you should have no problem coming over your knees, the kinesielogy thing is bullshit, olympic lifters (the guys holding 350 lbs overhead with their knees a foot over their toes) lift that way 5 days a week for years on end and have less injuries than most other sports[IMG]
