are there any more sites like squarespace that either let you buy their template or build your website using their templates?

Is it totally necessary to buy a template? The only reason i can think of is that if they go out of business your website wuld go as well.

What I am looking for is a pre-made template which is 'easy' to modify...I don't have the slightest idea on how to code anything outside of basic basic html.

I know you can buy a template, but then what software do i use to modify it if i wanted to add more galleries etc etc...i don't want to have to learn how to code if i don't have to.

thanks for any advice and links.

Do you have a mac? iweb makes galleries just by dragging and dropping pictures.

    Or try smugmug.com

I bought my template from bludomain. Piece of cake to get it set up the way I wanted and go live. You don't need special software.

Angelica Glass is a photogs blog that I follow. Well she had an entry that she has since removed regarding the fact that Bludomain has stolen her webite layout and has turned it into a template availabel for 50 bucks. It is the Finn template.

but if you are interested Blu's templates are all 100 bucks plus hosting this month

i think i might just have to go with buying their domain, but i'd want to host it on another server.

Does blu help you get your site up and running on another server?

you are required to have hosting with them for 1 year.

and I believe you never actually get the .fla files, you get a utility that runs through adobe air that lets you modify the things in the template that they allow you to change

I don't think that you're required to host with them for a year. I chose to do so simply because it was easier. I've never had a problem with them.

Yes, you get a control panel link that looks like this:

That allows you to modify your site, within parameters, as you like. You can access it thru any web browser. You don't have to have adobe air or whatever.

so when you actually buy their website, what exactly do you get?

Do you do all the work to upload the website to your new host or do they/can they do that for you?

so you paid $100 for the website and another $100 to not be able to host with them right?

You get a template that you use to load all your text and photos into. My website was $400 and I pay $100/yr to host with them. I don't know how you go about loading their template to a new host If you don't host with them.

They also sent me a CpanelX control panel but I've never used it.

Thanks for you help!! How is their support? I've read reviews and they don't speak too fond of them!

I thought about hosting with them, but i need more than 3Gigs of space....i usually upload all the full res files and send out the links to ppl. I'd hate to run out of space.

On my site (George) my pic size is limited to 1680 x 1200 but that's plenty big. I don't think Blu has a site that you can upload full rez files. You're better off with an FTP site for that.

by uploading full rez, i meant zip them up and give them a link to download all the files, not upload each individual file in full rez :)

    yeah!!

do you have your clients proof and buy through your website?

one of the main reasons i'm thinking about switching is it's not very easy to navigate through the shopping cart and proofing gallery of a bludomain layout.

No, I don't sell prints thru my website. I have a shopping cart but I don't use it. If people want prints, they send me an email and we go from there. My prints are all custom made and I sell very few compared to other shooters so it's no big deal for me.
