My SQL server hard drive ran out of space last night and was not able to complete the usual backups. Anyway, the transcation log of one of the databases that never backed up grew to 9 gigs.

The best and only way I know to clean this up is to re-backup the transaction log after creating more space on the drive that ran out.

The problem is this, when I back up the trans log I get a timeout expired error. No matter what I do, it always timesout!!

    Any info would be appreciated.

Using my psychic abilities, I'm going to take a guess you're using MS SQL. I'm also going to take a guess its MS SQL v7, but I have a feeling it might have been upgraded to 2000. How far off am I?

What are you using to do the backups? Are you using SQL server or a 3rd party backup solution? Are the databases healthy? Any of them locked or corrupted? Can you connect to the database(s) from a client? Can you stop the SQL server and physically copy the files to another machine?
