does sql server 7 have have a similar password encryption function as mysql's PASSWD() ?
there are undocumented procs in sql server that will do what you want, and i've used them for a few years without any trouble. here is an article:
keep in mind I don't believe that's a salted hash, therefore it's really not much protection. what language are you programming in on top of the DB? it's easy to implement an MD5 or SHA-1 hash WITH salting, there's a ton of open source code out there.
