    WTF is causing this BS?

Every time I start up my ibook it tells me my computer clock is wrong, and it's either set to march 2001 or december 1969 :wtf:

I go to the clock thing in sys. pref. and I set it to the us.apple.com thing and I lock it, then it goes to the normal time and same shit happens when i restart.

What could be causing this? :noes:

if your battery at any time dies or becomes disconnected from the laptop, it will reset your clock. your internal battery (forgot the actual name) may be dead too...but its not a virus.

cmos battery....could have just been a faulty battery.

    Yea, that's a CMOS issue.

    Also try resetting the PRAM.

Is it brand new? The batteries last about 3-4 years typically. Just a bad battery in general could cause it to die early.

they won't snoop your machine...its not of concern to them. and the cmos battery is mostly used for the clock settings along with other things. and yes, like any electronic equipment, it can be faulty.

I bought it in June 2005 and it just started giving me these problems.

Okay, they better not snoop around :o

I guess it is faulty then :greddy:

did you reset the PRAM yet? apple-option-P-R on startup after the chime finishes, hold it down until you hear the machine restart a couple times. then try resetting the clock.

:dunno: it could still be a faulty battery, in which case resetting the PRAM can really only go so far. It's not a huge issue, just more of an annoying one -- take it to an apple store or other certified tech when you get the chance. It's probably nothing more than a bad battery, these things happen once in a while.
