    on a side note i think im gonna be picking up a spyderco salt series knife but i dont know which one i want :o. its gonna be going in my tackle box

    not sure on serrated vs plain either. i wish spyderco made one of these in a damn combo blade

    I've thought about the spyderco, but the prospect of actually having to sharpen it kills it for me

    I have a Dept. issued Police model and it's been very reliable.

    no, the one w/ the funky blades, serrated blades are no fun to sharpen by definition

    If you're so inclined, I believe you can send knives back to Spyderco and for ~5 bucks they'll sharpen it for you.

    or use their sharpening kit which works fantastically even on serrated blades I have one.

    I used the standard model serrated Merlin for many years. The serrations held an edge and the hooked blade worked well for cutting things like rope or cord quickly. I did manage to damage the tip of the blade but I considered it user error.

    Probably not a good choice for an all around user but if you work with fishing line, wire, rope and such it is a nice knife to have around.

    if i get the tasman salt its going in my tackle box so yeah it will be used for line, string, rope and what not :o
