I sent my old Sanyo 8100 away for 50 dollar rebate.
They received and processed the phone on Aug 15th 2005.

I called and the lady said they did receive it, and it should be 6-8 weeks before I received it.

Whats the deal? Normally take this long? The 8 weeks has almost come and passed.

You sent it away for the rebate? I took my old A460 to the Sprint Store and they credited my account on the spot. It took less than 4 hours for the credit to be reflected on my account. I've never heard of sending it in for the rebate...but I'm sure it is a longer process to go that route. Hopefully you kept some kind of proof that you sent it in.

Ok, wierd. I didn't think you could send in a phone for the buy-back. I'll see if I can get an answer for this.

Then that's why - the rules are you have to have a current Sprint account. They give a credit on the account - if you don't have an account, what good would a credit do?

It doesn't say anything about that on the form they sent me. It just says 50 dollar rebate.

The Rebate people told me that Sprint will cut me a check, but the sprint people were :greddy: today and the one ass hung up on me, after researching what was going on for 20 minutes.

No where would it say rebate. It says service credit.

A rebate is a discount or a deduction off the purchase price anyway. You didn't just buy the phone. If you were to get cash or check back (as in, real money) for sending in the phone, it would be defined as a Buy-back.

It says credit my account. But the fact remains I closed my account there January '05, and they sent me this form July '05.

You're pretty screwed then. Why did you send in a phone for credit to a account that does not exist?

Why would they offer credit to an account that doesn't exist?

I have an feeling they like to do this often.

no, you're the first I've heard. Sprint made the first error, but you made the 2nd.

They accepted it, they took responsibility for it, he was told he would receive a service credit of some sort, and he should.

Also, I would have bought this for 50 via paypal if you owuld have posted something up about it.

there lies the rub. How do you get a service credit for an account that does not exist anymore?

and why are we discussing this in Gizmos anyway?

If I knew that it was going to be this big of a hassle I wouldn't have sent the phone in.

But like you said, buy back = they give money for the phone.

It says it is a buy back.
Then on real small print it says credit to the account.

Besides the fact it says buy back, the fact they sent it 7 months after I already closed the account off, only lead to more confusion.
    It's their fault, not mine.

You should demand a check or your phone back. Simple as that.
