Friend of mine has an XD9 and he hates the trigger on it (I do too..). Is there anything that can be done, aftermarket parts, or any smiths that would be able to work their magic on it?

My response of "sell it and buy a glock" did not go over well with him.

    Thanks.

Canyon Creek and Springer Precision are the leading authorities in afternarket XD trigger work. Ask any of the XD boards. I have a Canyon Creek in my XD, but after seeing Springers work, I would recommend Springer precision trigger.

He has excellent customer service and has the fastest turn around time.

Just a note this is just a range plinker/HD gun. The whole topic came about after he shot both my G17 and my G19 at the range one day.

Do you have the Dawson sights on your XD or was that one of your 1911s? I'm thinking of sending my XD out to Springer for the trigger job and maybe the Dawson sights.

I should of made this thread awhile ago. I love my XD40, but would like some trigger work.

So how does it work if I send this to Springer? Do I have to have an FFL to send out my xd? If so, I guess it would be easier to just buy the parts from the link itchiban posted.

You are not transferring ownership, so it would just be shipping it to and from.

As for my XD, yes it's got the Dawson front sight, all of my game guns have the Dawson Front fiber optic front sight. I bought this from a good shooting buddy that had all the work done at Canyon Creek.

How difficult is changing all of that out? I'm a noob to guns. I can field strip it obviously, but digging into the gun further could get a little scary. I also don't want to be a woman and never be able to take the gun apart further so I'd be willing to try it. :mamoru:

If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, have put together an AR, I'd say a 3/5 in terms of difficulty.

    Never played with an AR.

I can put together automotive engines though. :dunno:

I haven't looked over the drop in parts, but they usually set them up so they are fool proof.

    tips:

    1. Make sure the gun is unloaded.
    2. Go into a room that is not distracting and doesn't have a lot of places for little pins and springs to find to hide in.
    3. Place a big white towel on the table, makes it easier to find said little pins and springs.
    4. Take your time, do it when you are not rushed or will be interrupted.

Safety and action I pay the upmost attention to detail.

It'll be rewarding doing it yourself. Let me know if you get stuck I know my way around the XD.

    :h5:

I'll probably buy it. My one gripe is the trigger on the XD, overall the rest is amazing.

My buddy did the powder valley trigger kit. My only gripe was that his reset is rather mute. My Canyon Creek has a very crisp reset.

    Good luck!

    Take pics.

I don't mind the reset so much. I can double tap with moderate speed after shooting this thing for so long. But I do hate the pre-travel. If it was all gone I'd be happy.

I did an XDguys.com spring swap and a new sear/spring combo. It's nice but reset is not as short as I would like.

All told was about $60 and an hour of my time.

Honestly now, after shooting my G19 I want to pimp that one out for some matches.

Any competent gun smith can do it for you as you wait. It shouldn't cost you more than $20 to punch out the front sight and push one in.

Buy the sight from Dawson www.dawsonprecision.com. Bring it to a smith and have them put it on for you.
