GUN Springfield XD grip safety :hsugh:

I've been looking at getting another pistol. One of them is the XD compact in .45. I got the chance to handle it today after going to the range. It's a nice gun but the grip safety seems like a major nuisance. Though I only handled it for a minute. It was impossible for me to depress the mag release with any speed or even single handedly because my hand is also holding down the grip safety.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I dont have a prob with mine. I have really big hands tho so that might be a factor. Cant you shift your grip to release the mag and then shift back? Like on my H&K I can't push down the mag release from my shooting position. Kind of a hastle but I can still do it pretty quickly one handed. Not sure if that makes any sense.

It has never been a problem for me, although people unfamiliar with handguns
that have looked at my XD9 seem to have problems :dunno:

I've never put a single thought to it. I just hold it like I would any other gun, don't even notice that it's there. But then again, all I shoot is that and my 1911.

You shouldn't have to worry about holding in the grip safety, it should be automatic with your grip. If you are having to worry about it, you probably need to correct something in your grip.

I don't have any problems with my XD's mag release or grip safety.

Just goes to show that you should get your hands on a firearm before buying. Now that you know that it doesn't fit your hand, don't buy it.

My only problem with the grip safety on the two XD's I've handled has been pulling back the slide for disassembly. I don't notice it otherwise.

Well it is kind of a problem if it tend to hold the pistol in a manner that doesn't allow me to remove the mag with ease.

At least that's what it seemed like.

I dont have a problem with mine. I use my middle finger to drop the mag though... I can do it with my thumb, but the middle finger is quicker and easier for me.

:ugh: you dont have to hold the damn safety down to remove the mag. move your fucking hand slightly to remove the magazine.

According to the douche behind the counter the grip safety needs to be released to remove a mag. Is that incorrect?

this might be a silly question but have you tried releasing the mag while depressing the safety? :hsugh:

you can remove the mag with the grip safety engaged or disengaged... has no effect either way.
