Has any OT'ers had a chance to use it yet, I just saw that they have one now and I love the feel of a XD I was about ready to purchase the XD .45 GAP but now that I saw this I think I may have to get it.

I think a few people (I don't know about this board, but just in general) have them, but they aren't in very wide circulation yet. I'm waiting for my local shop to get one in, so I can see how it feels.

And .45GAP is a solution looking for a problem. Fuck Gaston & his bitch cartridge.

*disclaimer* I own 2 glocks, but that doesn't change how I feel about the GAP cartridge.

Does Springfield have contracts with any big law enforcement agencies or anything? I'm thinking about getting an XD in the near future and this stuff matters to me :o.

Which is why so many law enforcement agencies use Glocks... :hsugh:

Edit: I think Springfield has some contracts for 1911s for SWAT. Do not know of any for the XD.

Doesnt the military require a manual safety? I dunno about you, but some of the cops I've seen NEED a manual safety.

Kimber has the contracts for 1911's for SWAT, Marine MEUs, and Delta Force.

For some reason I thought LAPD Swat used Sig's :dunno:

.......and is it that big of a deal if they have a Government contract or not, usually the Government will go with the cheapest bidder, not "the best" gun. Not saying they don't choose good guns, but you get my point.

  14. i believe you're wrong on both accounts. most products like BDU's and canteens and whatnot probably go to the lowest bidder, but products like guns and optics are tested.

most agencies have thorough testing of certain products. If you look at the contracts for optics for the military, the trijicon acog, the eotech, and the aimpoint have the same contracts, for the same quantity, and the same price.

or look at the DEA.. their AR-15 testing has been documented and reprinted (mainly by RRA for bragging rights)..

or this link here shows that the LAPD SWAT tested 5 different brands of 1911's before deciding on the Kimber.

Tacoma PD uses Kimber Pro Carry II's as their preferred carry weapon.
