XD vs. 19: which would you rather have, given the choice? Why?

It's really a matter of which feels better. I went with the XD9. I'm happy with it.

Love my XD a lot more than idleprocess' Glock. Both fine firearms but the XD
fits my hand better and has a grip angle that works better for me.

Why not open up the field to a few more choices?

Smith and Wesson M&P9. Better ergonomically than the Glock. I've shot all three, and I like the way the M&P9 feels compared to the Glock, and the way it shoots compared to the XD. Any of them would be good firearms, but my choice if I had to do it again, would still be the M&P.

I choose the glock because it fits my hand better, and because of the trigger spring issue on the XD's.

Plus as far as ugly goes... poor XD. :mamoru::mamoru::mamoru:

PS: Shoot them both, pick the one that fits you better, there is no "best gun" and really between these two, there is no "better" gun, there's only better for you.

Because I only want a 9mm, am getting in on a trade it at the store (tired of AK-47), and am not looking to pay more than $500.

    If you have suggestions I'm open . . .

I'm not asking you to make the decision for me. I'm asking you to make the decision for yourself, and tell me why you went there.

So I have somethings to think about when I have them both in my hands . . .

I have a 31 and it's pretty comfortable, my friend had a 9mm XD and it feels better then my Glock does. Good thing about Glocks though is they always go bang.

IMO I'd keep the AK though, you may want another one down the road, and with the way things are going on capitol hill you may not be able to get one in a couple of years.

I went with the 19, fit me the best, great price, and infinitely reliable.

Pick the one that fits your hand the best. I liked the ergonomics of the XD better.

    19. I do not like the XD series. i've shot them a couple times and they did not impress me at all. not that it should matter in your decision, but the XDs are also some of the ugliest guns out there.

I have the Glock and have had 3 other 19s from 1st gen thru current Gen. I also own a 17 and 33(.357 sig). I added the LaserMax Laser, Extended slide release, and 3.5# trigger. 19 makes a great carry weapon.

I can shoot richk's XD about as well as my G17. I like them both. Some of the innards on the XD9 seem to be better-executed than the G17.

But to answer the question, go with whatever works best for you. After buying 3 handguns essentially blind, I think I'm going to try before I buy next time.

Haven't actually fired one though, and never so much as touched the M&P, but I had to do Reserve LEO qualifying shoot on a G17 and I didn't like the way it fit my hand (it actually didn't fit well at all).

Nice gun, but I don't like Glock's all that much for the grip angle and overall shape.
XD's point more naturally for me.
