Didn't watch the fight but based on reports it was a one sided fight with Cotto's corner refusing to throw in the towel so Bayless had to stop the fight for the sake of Cotto's health.

P.S. Bayless = the best boxing referee in this era.

It was a good stop, there was no real 'straw that broke his back' punch to seal it but it was obvious Cotto couldn't win and there was no need for him to take any more punishment.
Excellent fight though, Manny really had to earn it by eating a ton of left jabs and hooks. I don't know why Cotto abandoned the uppercut after the 4th round or so, it was really getting through when Pac would close the gap on him. :dunno:

seemed like they just wanted to up pac's cred and give him a tko finish as opposed to a dec. cotto fought hard for 11 rounds and earned the right to go to decision.

it reminded me of the Rothwell v cain ending we just recently saw. yeah he had been taking abuse, but that was the wrong time to stop the fight.
cotto got dropped 2 times in the fight got back up and kept coming back for more, let him finish his LAST 2 MINUTES OF THE 12TH ROUND.

boxing always reminds me of why i hate it on the headline level.

    EDIT: rothwell, not carwin. derrrrr

They stopped it because Cotto literally was running from rope to rope for the final 3 rounds or so. The 12th he came out and was not engaging whatsoever. He was just back pedaling the entire time until he hit the ropes, then would change directions and start again.

At one point Manny was walking him down and look at the ref and shrugged. He finally closed the distance and threw a mini flurry that wasn't really doing anything, but since Cotto was throwing back at all he jumped in and stopped the fight.

I'll agree with letting him finish if he wasn't running away so god damn much.

after seeing it in higher quality, i can see a justification for the stoppage...he didnt do ANYTHING rounds 10,11 & 12....and man he was beat up. Good guy though.

You strike me as the kind of person who doesn't understand what a good ref is supposed to do, and will piss and moan over every call.

Nobody "earns the right to go to a decision", Rothwell was finished and so was Cotto, getting beat on for another few minutes with little or no defense doesn't do anything except seriously threaten the long-term health of the fighter.

I was at the fight, good stoppage. I was rooting for Cotto, but he was running for the last few rounds...i was a little surprised the ref didn't let the fight finish...but Cotto was taking a pounding. No issues with the stoppage, the entire arena knew he was done a few rounds back.

rounds 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 were all ugly for cotto. he couldve stopped it in round 10 and saved cotto 2 more ROUNDS of beating.
instead he arbitrarily waits for rounds 12 to save him from two MINUTES, and pads pac's record with a TKO as opposed to a dec.

i was there. It was actually, IMHO, a late stoppage, it should have been stopped in rnd 9 or 10. He was just taking a beating the whole time. His father and ring wanted to end it in the 9th, i was over near his corner when i was there working. And his father looked as if he was pleading with him to call the fight, Cotto kept shaking his head.

The crowd was electrifying. They were up and down the whole night, and the PR fans started to sway to Manny towards the end, it was awesome.

Yeah I thought Pac was gonna end it in round 9 actually, but Cotto started using footwork and basically retreated the rest of the fight. I think he won like what 2 or 3 rounds? Seriously he was just taking more punishment than he should have been.

I think it was a good stoppage could have happened earlier but he probably could have let it finish too.

If it happens and I hope it does my prediction Pacman beats Mayweather

    FUCK yeah!!!

just finally watched the fight :bowdown:

Pacman fucking unbelievable. Bring on Mayweather!

The stoppage was fine, he should of stopped it in rd9 but weird he called it in the final 2 mins.

I almost predicted a straight left to knock him out, shit was working perfectly.

next fight is going to be fucking hugeeeeeeeeeeeee
