my workout tonight was splitting a few logs with just a maul and a sledgehammer.

i actually enjoy it since it caters to my ADD and provides instant gratification / sense of accomplishment with every split. kind of like mowing a lawn when the grass is pretty tall.

a neighbor offered to let me use his log splitter but i told him no thanks since it's more fun to do it with a maul. :big grin:

the logs were @ 3' in diameter and 2' tall.

 my dad used to make me do this all the time, never realized how good it was for me until I started getting into weight training.

If it's in a Rocky movie, it has to be a good workout.

    splitting wood warms you twice.

Frozen, well seasoned hardwood is the shit.

I had a hydraulic splitter blow a line on me one day. It pumped scalding fluid all over my legs. Good times, free ambulance ride out of that one.

Splitting hammer for me from now on.

Hello exactly. Both ambulances (the only within 20 miles) left the local 4th of July parade to come get me

I'm lucky, I had just had my face down there a second before and turned to pick up another log. I would have looked like:

Word man, I love splitting wood by hand. My dad has one of these I use, it pretty heavy but works like a charm.

in the old days boxers' workouts consisted almost entirely of running and splitting firewood

so much physical labor out there really is great. Last week I had to drive huge stakes into the ground at a job im on , with a sledgehammer, got a nasty pump and pretty beat up. Also nailing with a heavy hammer for extended periods yields a nasty forearm pump!
