So I know that I'm late on this, but I did spinning for the first time yesterday and it kicked my ass. I run alright and I have decent cardio fitness, but my legs were killing me after like 2 minutes. I was dripping after 40 minutes.
I think that I'm gonna do this a few times a week and go ahead and get shreaded for my Miami trip next month. :bigthumb:

I never understood why you'd need a class + instructor to exercise on a stationary bike.

Dunno, same reason people need a Personal Trainer to work out. :dunno:

    I didn't take a class, I just rode.

Same reason that I always workout with a partner on leg day. It pushes me to work harder even when I want to give up.

I want to try spinning sometime, but they only offer it in the mornings for the soccer moms and I don't think my boss would like taht.

I've heard it kicks your ass, but I don't think I'm secure enough in my masculinity to try it :o

I used to do a couple a week pretty regularly

kicks your ass. burns a ton of calories, makes you feel like you DID something when you are still standing at the end :)

To loud, fast-paced music, with an instructor pushing you.

A good instructor makes all the difference. It shouldn't be just like riding a stationary bike, if it's done right. It's an ass-kicker that just happens to use a bike as it's method of torture.

i went to a couple of them, but quit... there were people in there trying to lose weight that had been spinning for a year or so, but hadn't really lost much fat
but they could make it through the class easier!

yeah, i was working out at way too high of a heart rate to burn fat, so i decided it wasn't worth it

You never know, those people might go out for double cheeseburgers after the spinning classes and that's why they haven't lost any weight.

But if that's the case, we all know pretty much any other form of exercise is appropriate for weight loss along with a good diet. (In which case it's difficult to find the point in spinning as opposed to other high intensity workouts.)

Hey, what gym do you workout at ATL? I need to find one for this summer since I'm not taking classes.

... and no free wheel. You HAVE to keep pedalling, or you look like a dick and stop all the way. Also the wheel that you're spinning is a weighted metal disk, and there is a screw that you tirn to make the resistance harder.

I don't know what you, or those people were doing in that class, but my boss has been teaching a class (half hour) four times a week and he has lost like 12 pounds in the last two weeks. He's actually trying to get out of teaching a couple classes because he's losing too much weight. He's fucking ripped though

We have three locations in the Atlanta area, but the one that I work at is the biggest, nicest, and coolest. It's the Sandy Springs location.
I may actually start working out somewhere else though, sometimes I don't like working out where I work.

Nice, does the midtown location have a free weights? It's the closest to campus but doesn't mention it on the website. I may check out the SS location as its relatvely close to work, assuming I'll still be working there this summer. Thanks

i'm not denying that it works... shit, i'd lost a lot of weight if i kept with it, but i feel like i'd lose a lot of muscle mass also b/c my heart rate's so high when i'm at it
