I need some help, my friends.
I don't play it often but use it to set up triangles. Since its a bit more "predictable" - I typically go right from the triangle set up to the arm bar/arm lock. I've used it to set up a bicep crush against a few guys but they are mostly more noobert than me even.
I'd be interested in hearing from someone who uses it regularly. I just don't.
I'm not very good with it.
I usually try for a triangle...if I can't get a triangle I'll push up on one arm and bring my opposite leg down and cut in on my opponent's knee and sweep him to the ground.
man i never use it. but i have some guys at my academy who are freaking ridiculous with it though.
they actually do a cross collar grip, and then grip one sleeve. the grip on the collar is so annoying because you can pull people down. when he pulls me down.. my posture ends up sucking, and then he yanks my arm down and shoots for omo platas and triangles.
his free foot goes on my hip and really elevates his hips so he can get a good bite on an omo plata even if im standing.
but yeah i just really dislike the position. i feel like its too much grip strength, and my grip is pretty lousy.
I like it because I have a strong grip. I use it to set up triangles and it is the only position I usually hit omoplatas from. I usually hit sweeps from spider guard more than submissions, though.
yeah i like the foot on the hip because i can shoot my hips really high and since i have big and long legs i get triangles all the time. I only use it for triangles or my trainer tells me to use it to stall if i'm up on points and theres not that much time left on the clock
I'm always tentative with pulling a leg back and shooting my hips up.
If the guy moves to the side a little he could get a big kick in the face.
I think that there is a time and place for it, like most stuff in BJJ, but I never use it. Ive been told not to divide my resources if possible and double up on one arm to keep my opponent threatened.
I don't like spiders, they freak me out.
i also like when they step in with one leg to let go of that arm and hook it with my leg and sit up, feed the other arm to my arm thats now around their leg and either sit up for a single or grab their collar and pull on it for a sweep. Pretty basic but it works pretty good
My friend is really good at this. I hate him.
I hope he reads this. Because I hate him.
if you trained more bjj instead of that karate stuff he wouldn't get you with it
lolz i just confused you with shooto, damn asians
I do a tricky little pass that requires some balance and speed.
Basically IF i am in someones spider guard, and this can be done the other way, this is only for descriptive purposes but here it goes...
Im in there spider guard, I take my right foot and put on there right theigh to break the foot in my left sleeve.
I then, IMMEDIATLY base out with my left leg
I then control there left right leg and pin it to the ground with my (now free) left arm
I then sprawl out enough to try and come around their right leg, which can be difficult seeing they still have a grip on your right arm, but you have to wiggle it a bit to just get the foot out of your elbow joint (easier said than done) and then try and pass.
My attacks from there is just a triangle, but i usually move to a regular open guard or my DLR guard which is the base of my open guard.
Having said that, its not because i think spider guard sucks, its an awesome guard and there are people at my academy that destory everyone with it, its just that i havnt learnt to use it properly
I don't play it. Haven't spent any time on it.
I like the step over pass (if you're standing), as well as coming up on a knee to use it to break the spider grip (if you aren't standing).
i like those passes that i posted videos for? remember that thread where i got banned.. haha
Andre Galvao has a great spider guard sweep on youtube that I have been able to use successfully.
Other than that. I wont say anything else because I'm only a blue belt and Hilldawg is purple. Respeita a faixa.
However, I do love spiderguard. Which brings me to the topic of... no gi spider guard is bullshit unless you have the grip strength of Nogueira.
My spiderguard is white belt. All help welcome.
who does no gi spider guard? that would be retarded
Lol, I have seen this... it is gay as hell. Wrist control. Nogueira kind of does it.
