I ran a test on my dad's internet connection (not wireless), but the cable is split, going to the TV and the modem - 688 kbsp down, 400 something up...

Then I checked mine - temporary wireless connection via my neighbor's internet (low signal) and I get almost double the download speed of my dad's connection...could the splitter really suck that much bandwidth?

edit: wtf, seems to be more appropriate now...just tried it again...

I work for a company that has a datacenter like 50 feet from my office, so I have a strand of cat6 that runs from the DSR to my Lab

that are the signal's of the modem? do they fall into the correct range?

yes splitter, bad cables, shitty splitters, bad connections to OTHER components on that circuit can degrade your broadband performance.

yah im at my parents house for the summer and when i got here, i was getting around 86% worst download speeds that any other cogeco user, cable guy came by today, did his thing, tested my speed got the first test results, i changed around some splitters and than i got the second result speed and its about 19% worst than other cogeco users, which is the same result as most of the people i know who use cogeco cable

it's cable. its going to be inconsistant. Nothing you can do to overcome that limitation in the technology and the providers' insistance on over-selling it.
