So I just got my AK74 mags from Ohio Rapid Fire and they have specks of rust on them. They are all on the bottom of the magazine, and front and back (narrow sides)

I was able to wipe off the ones on the bottom of the mag but ones on front and back is harder to remove. What can I use to remove this and not damage the paint on magazines?

Oil and steel wool. They are just floorplates, it won't matter if there's a bit of rust on them, you can always spray paint them too.

How about the specks on the magazine (on narrow sides) itself? The smell of rust is what's bothering me mostly after handling them.

I was thinking about 00 steel wool myself but I was not sure if that'd hurt the paint.

If you're really worried about it I'd just pup the floorplate off and clean the whole thing, inside and out. I don't quote know what you mean when you say there's rust on the narrow sides. I'm assuming you got polymer mags and I don't think there's any exposed metal except for the locking tabs on top and the floorplate.

It's steel mag. The narrow side being where the bullets and primers would line up after you insert your rounds into your mag.

It's an AK mag. It'll probably still function with gaping rust holes in it.

Oh ok, gotcha. Yeah, just rub oil with some 000 steel wool and it should get rid of rust without damaging the finish too much.
