I've looked through the stickies and all I've found is some notes where people say soy is bad. But I don't know how bad, and what I should do.

I have a minor lactose intolerance problem. I'm okay with some cheese (and a bowl full of cottage cheese doesn't seem to affect me) and some dairy.

But a glass of milk gives me very bad stomach pains (I love milk too :wtc:). I only figured it out in the last few years. So I started drink Silk Soy Milk.

I recently started taking ON 100% Whey protein powder. Instead of water, I found it taste much better in my soy milk. It went from "eh" to downright delicious.

Am I making a big mistake here? Is this a bad choice? What are my other options?

Drink Lactaid milk. It has the lactase enzyme you lack in the milk and works pretty well in preventing all the nasty things that come with being lactose intolerant.

I don't think that it's conclusively proven about the effects of soy on a man, but myself being cautious, i'd rather not mess around with it.

Blazon, in all honesty you'll find that estrogen has many ameliorative and otherwise protective effects. It's only in supraphysiological concentrations that causes problems with which most weightlifters are concerned (gynecomastia, mood swings, etc.). For instance, estrogen helps you maintain strong bones. This is evidenced in postmenopausal women who, without estrogen, are prone to developing osteoporosis and other bone afflictions. There are plenty of other desirable functions of estrogen. Also, steroid users who concomitantly administer estrogen antagonists find that their gains are reduced (but this may be necessary to prevent the side effects of excess aromatization, e.g. gynecomastia).

Bottom line: If you're lactose intolerant, some soy milk every now and then isn't going to kill you. Lord knows that there are plenty of hormones in regular milk these days anyway. Good luck!

    One Yea....

    One Nay...

And Methusala...I'm not exactly sure what you were saying there...but that fancy word that has "gyne" in it...scares the shit out of me. :noes:

The amount I drink? I have about 1 LARGE cup (it's probably a 20 oz cup)...2 scoops of ON protein powder a day.

    Is that too much?

In other words...when you say "some soy milk"...what constitutes "some".

A cup of soy milk a day won't give you bitch tits. A cup at every meal with soy protein powder mixed in I wouldn't recommend though.

I find lactaid milk also allows me to digest whey or musclemilk better than with water alone. I do still by lactase caps that I take twice a day with dairy meals.

    ATTENTION...ATTENTION.

I was looking over the back of my large jug of ON 100% Whey last night...and I noticed...it contains Lactase. It says so right on the front...not even hidden in small lettering on the back.

From the stuff I'm reading from you guys (as I ashamedly admit I know little about my condition other than the horrific pain I get after drinkink a glass of milk) that this is the enzyme my body lacks to deal with Lactose correctly.

From what Timberwolf is saying, Lactase is what I need.

So I should be okay drinking this stuff in milk because it contains Lactase?

    Is this correct?

T-nation also said that Muscle milk can cause brain damage. Sometimes I really question that site. Have you found any other link that suggests the ill effects of soy?

So much junk info in the fitness nutrition industry its getting hard to sort out whats fact.:wtc:

Women with reproductive disorders (for example: ovarian cysts) are told to AVOID soy foods [by many doctors] due to their estrogenic properties.
