I know we all slam soy but I can't remember why.

The reason I ask is one of my training partners has decided to start a supplement company and so far the only product he has in is whey. It's a mix of whey, casein, egg and soy protein. Personally I think it's a fucking retarded business venture because the profit margin on protein powder is really small. However he has given me a few tubs for free but I haven't decided if I'm going to use it or not.

    So why the soy hate?

He claims is an estrogen mimicker so your body thinks theres lots of estrogen and thus doesn't convert as much test to estrogen. He's a bit of an idiot sometimes so I really don't believe him. :dunno:

soy is probably the smallest componant in that powder anyway, so if its free i would just use it up. you probably dont get soy anywhere else in your diet, so i doubt itll do anything negative

yea i noticed the pro complex flavor being different. kind of sucks now that i think of it but whatever i don't drink it for taste.

i usually do a scoop of atw choc + a scoop of pro complex choc and the atw is so good that it levels things out.

there's no effect in hormone levels the average human.

There was suggestions, but they were busted.

However, there's a possibility there's a problem if you've got thyroid issues. if that's the case, you'll want to stay away from it. The plant estrogens mimic that of the human hormones produced by the thyroid, and thus the thyroid reduces the natural production.

i've done quite a bit of online reading since i posted a similar thread a few weeks ago, but i think we came across some pretty big dudes on this forum that don't drink moo milk, don't have moobs, bang their girlfriends while drinking soy milk

I remember reading that it's not absorbed by the body as easily as protein from meats, dairy, or fish... so that could be problematic if true I guess. :dunno:

The structure of soy is called phytoestrogens. In the body, it resembles the human estrogen hormone. The absorption depends on the person. There are some women who use it to supplement hormone therapy. To others, it doesn't work as well. Personally, I haven't seen anyone get man boobs from eating too much edamame.

consider soy protein a carb. it is missing 2 essential amino acids necessary for muscle synthesis, as the same for most plant proteins. As for the estrogen thing, its not that bad, you need estrogen for your heart anyways
