I just got a new set of speakers (logitech z-2300) and I noticed a distortion/crackling sound at random seemed to happen with certain game sounds, but not everytime that sound played. Upon hooking up my old speakers the problem still exists...I had never noticed it before. I have been using onboard audio on my mobo (asus a8n-e) with the latest drivers. Would a sound card fix this problem, or is it something more complicated (or easier) to fix? And it isn't the game, as it has happened in a few different games.

The new speakers could also be defective. Is the distortion/crackling happening volume related?? In other words, does it only happen at high volumes or does it also happen at very low volume?

Back in the day I had some audio problems that were cleared up by getting an audio card, as opposed to onboard audio. I dunno why but the MB mfg just put crap in for the on board audio. Guess they were trying to save some money.
