soooo, i just built a new computer...hdd question..

    this is my second computer i've built, but i had my friend who's a computer tech help me with it. i have a 250gb sata harddrive in my system but it's showing up as a 127gb drive with 120gb free...anyone know why its doing this??

    it was partitioned at 127gb

    You hit the 127GB limit of pre-SP1 XP.

    did you format the drive in xp sp2? Or was it formatted elsewhere?

    when the system was being built, so i guess before sp2...how can i fix it?

    reformat it. or expand the partition.

    Buy Norton PartitionMagic 8.0. I was hesitant to spend money to solve this sort of problem, but it's really the only reasonable way to deal with it without reformatting and futzing around with backups.

    i have a pre-sp1 version of xp and also win2000pro that both show drives over 127gb

    we've established in previous threads that you're an idiot.


    Only way to use drives >127G in xp pre-sp1 is to have updated controller drivers that support 48-bit LBA.

    edit: i just looked at my disks, both are sp1/2 nevermind, i spoke too soon
