[or must I buy a Nikon or Canon in order to be accepted into OTAP elitism? This would be my first DSLR so I'm not trying to spend a fortune. Kind of looking at the E-500 for that reason.]

    Yikes! Olympus has that!

Olympus is worse then Nikon when it comes to high ISO noise as well

I had an Olympus P&S, and I loved that thing. However, for DSLR I went with the 20D(Canon). I'd stick to the big two.

Same here. I started off with a small Olympus P&S but when it was time to upgrade to an SLR I found out why most people go with Canon or Nikon. I ended up with the Nikon D70s and I love it.
